Thank you so much Lynn!! This chili has become a family favorite!! The kids love the cornbread over this wonderful chili!! You were right!!! The chocolate adds richness without the chocolate flavor!! The recipe is amazing! Thank you so much for sharing!!

Thank you! I hope you enjoy it. The chocolate just adds another depth of flavor to the chili – you don’t really taste the chocolate – it just blends in with the other flavors. Can’t wait to see how you like it.

I add it for an additional depth of flavor. If you have ever had mole sauce, it has chocolate added to it, also. It just adds a different, delicious flavor to the chili.

Yes - add 1 Tablespoon of chili powder. I forgot about it and added an annotation and also listed it in the ingredients. I did in fact add it, but it wasn’t shown on camera. Sorry for the confusion.

best to use real chocolate – 80% dark not crappy hershey’s, which isn’t actual chocolate by milk solids and a little bit of cocoa powder added

It is from Pampered Chef. It is called the Mix ‘n Masher. You could probably google Pampered Chef and find out if it is available in Australia.

i want that utensil you used to break up the ground beef. i don’t think we have that here in Australia…

    – That would be a great idea. The only thing would be if your crockpot isn’t safe to put in the oven, you may need to pour the chili back in your original pot before adding the cornbread and cheese to bake in the oven. You would need to brown the ground beef, onion and garlic on the stove before pouring that part in the crockpot and then you could add the other ingredients and cook everything all day. Hope this answers your question.

I’m new to chili but could i make it a crock pot first then come home and make the topping?

    – I will send you a recipe. For this dish, just don’t bake it, but top the chili with it and it should work just the same.
