FYI: not all dark or semi-sweet chocolate is vegan- most sold in regular grocery stores that I’ve found contains dairy.

This side dish is absolutely delicious. Pretty much my go-to potato recipe whenever I need a quick side dish.

I have made a lot of mashed potato recipes recently, but this one is still my favorite.

Betty, will your potato salad taste close to sour cream and onion potato chips? If not, can you give me some suggestions as to how?

  28. Betty's KitchenOctober 20, 2013 at 6:22 pmReply

Mashed potatoes are smooth and sometimes are referred to as whipped potatoes. They do not have the skin. Smashed potatoes are prepared by mashing the potatoes just as little, so that they are lumpy. They usualy still have their skins on. Hash brown potatoes would not give the same effect.

What’s the difference between smashed potatoes and mashed potatoes? Also, may I use hashed potatoes instead?

This reminds me of a baked potato, smashed up with all the fix-ens. Can’t wait to try this. Yum.

I substituted red potatoes for the baking potatoes, but kept everything else the same, and it came out perfectly.
I wanted to use purple potatoes, but unfortunatly, none of the grocery stores around here, carry them.
My sister asked me to make them again, for Easter dinner, this Sunday, so I will.
Fortunatly, she lives near a Whole Foods grocery store (I know that they carry them), and she’s going to bring some purple potatoes.

    Thanks so much!
I’ll let you know how it goes! 🙂
