Thanks for the solutions. Will give it a try again. Yes I ate the mistakes even though the cookies didnt hold their shapes, they still tasted incredibly great

… I hope you ate the mistakes 🙂 Even though the cookies didn’t hold their shape, the taste should still be the same, but yes, I understand it’s no fun when a recipe doesn’t turn out exactly like you wished. Try some of my suggestions and hopefully you will get it. I would really do some small test batches, have fun and test, I do a lot of recipe testing during the week, and it’s fun finding what works and doesn’t. I wish you luck Michellegoh and hope your next try is better 🙂

for some possible solutions. #1, try the recipe using the amounts I used ( volumes ) so don’t weigh the ingredients and see if this fixes it. Also, you could do a test by chilling 1 or 2 cookies on a small cookie sheet, or just on a plate, and then pop them onto the baking sheet and into the oven right-away. This will also help a lot, but baking time will increase by a minute or 2. It’s super hard to help sometimes without being there, but I do hope this gives you some ideas. 🙂

Hi michellegoh, I’m glad you found a website with some info. I’d check a few more sites to see ( verify ) the weights that found on the website you used. Potential problems, – the oven temp could have been too low, this would make the dough really soften before it baked enough to form a crust and hold its shape. The temp in your house, and the temp of your butter. If your butter was super super soft, this could also be a problem. ( did you heat your butter ? ) hmm… now, for solutions..

Tks for the response. No worries, was wondering if u have those measurements on hand . Anyway, aft I posted the comment, I googled the info online and baked a batch jus now. I followed all the steps, but my cookies didnt stay in shape. It spreaded out and became thin cookies. What has gone wrong? 🙁

Hi michellegoh, I have to be honest and say I just don’t have the time to measure out all ingredients one by one to give you the grams. In the baking shoppe we only weight our ingredients but for home videos I measure by volume because not everyone has a scale that does grams, or is accurate to 1 gram. However, there are many websites that will give you the approx weight, for example 1 cup of flour. I’m sorry I can’t help you more in this aspect.

Hi veghead60, sorry for the very late reply, I never saw it 🙁 Cornstarch is added to give the cookies a little bit of snap. So the outside is a little more crisp but the inside keeps nice and fluffy ( not really moist but soft ) If you mail these off in good packaging I don’t think you’ll have a problem. There are shortbread recipes that do NOT use cornstarch, you can just sub the cornstarch with flour if you wish. Yes, thumbprint or “thimble” cookies would be excellent with this cookie.

thank you so much for sharing this video. May I have the measurement in grams please?

These cookies look beautiful, I have a few questions:

    1. Why is cornstarch added to the recipe and can it be substituted with something else?

    2. How well do these cookies hold up to mailing?

    3. Can this recipe be used for thumbprint cookies with jam and/or ganache?

Thank you in advance and thank you for all of the wonderful video’s.

Hi Angie, glad you found it 🙂 It’s easy to miss a video, Youtube has a hidden setting that allows you to see all new uploads from a user, you have to hover your mouse over the “subscribe” button and only then does this hidden menu appear where you can select that option ( by default it youtube only sends out email alerts once a week on new videos ) Thanks for watching the video, these cookies are really good and fun to make ! 🙂
