Hi drewie1995. You can try substituting every 1/2 teaspoon for 2 teaspoons of double-acting baking powder. But because the baking soda is used as a leavening agent, we wouldn’t recommend omitting it.

Can I leave out the baking soda? Plzz answer quickly. Thanks

Thanks for your question. The oil and water help to keep this cake moist after baking. Enjoy 🙂

what is the secret the cake is still moist?
Allrecipes.comSeptember 24, 2013 at 7:43 am
Thanks for your question. You certainly can turn these into cupcakes, try reducing the baking time slightly. Be sure to test with a toothpick or cake tester for doneness. Happy baking 🙂

thank you! is it okay to use olive oil?

Thanks for your question. Oil makes this cake very moist. You can try substituting butter, but the cake may be a little dry. Hope this helps!

This cake was amazing!! I made it on Thursday for my birthday and it was a huge hit! I only had a bundt pan so I made it in that. 350 for 40 minutes was perfect. I also used coconut milk and coconut oil. I also upped the cocoa powder to a full cup. It was so good!! So glad I found this recipe. 🙂
