In Spanish, two Ls next to each other make the Y sound. Tor-ti-ya. Like the
word ‘chicken’. Pollo. Pronounced poy-yo. In other places, these sounds are
pronounced like a hard J. So it depends on what dialect the person speaks
natively. Most of the time,LL makes the Y sound though. 🙂

how much butter?
Stas FiestasNovember 17, 2013 at 7:16 am
Who cares if this recipe comes from a Mexican or American?! Natives already
made corn tortillas far before Spanish invaded the country that now we call
Mexico and Mexicans. Sure it’s nicer to learn it from a Mexican who has
been doing it all his/her life and that runs in the family, though
Americans can cook great aswell. By the way I like the beginning of the
video too, very nicely done!! Will replace the vegetable shortening with
vegan butter though lol 🙂

@thlastlovee Baking powder is sold in most supermarkets. You can use oil or
lard instead of shortening.

@ j singh.. tortilla is not a English word. its a Spanish word. in english
grammar “ph” makes an “f” sound. but we certain don’t pronounce the p and
the h do we. in Spanish grammar “ll” makes a y or phonetically a “e” sound.
do a little research on the origin of a word and it’s grammar before you
try and come off trying to sound intelligent. all you do is make a fool if
yourself if you don’t know what your talking about

@CumulusSkies The little rolling pin isn’t necessary. I think a friend gave
it to us years ago. You can use the same ratio of lard to shortening. Lard
is more traditional and will give it more flavor. Let me know how it turns
out! Cheers, Jason
