Gennaro e Antonio sono adorabili : ) But let’s make it clear, bella figura
doesn’t mean showing off, it is all about behaving one’s best/ doing one’s
best/ expressing one’s best (whatever it is)… I wonder why so many people
don’t get it, after all it’s not that complicated.

I lived in Assisi for 3 years. My neighbour taught me how to go out in the
fields and pick wild grasses. I was HORRIFIED following her around watching
her pick prickly, ugly, muddy weeds. She washed, boiled, drained, minced them
before she tossed them lightly in a pan with bits of onion, garlic and
sausage(just enough for flavouring). A dash of excellent Umbrian olive oil
and we had a lovely sidedish to dinner. I could cry for some of that right
    now. Norway sucks!

I remember the scorn in the reading of accounts by 18th century Aristocrats
as they looked down in their writings on the Italians as a joke whilst the
same tourist looked at Roman ruins with awe. But today Italians seem to
send themselves up. Yet – reasonable life – i.e quality dignitas virtas &
attention to detail = “Dulce vita” that made Italian produce quality rather
than style over substance. Italy can turn things around – they do make good
stuff, have some great scientists & engineers

As an instance many elderly who grown up in war had to deal with poverty
with a capital P, and there was no fancy dress to wear, not a thing to call
their own, they had absolutely nothing but one’s own dignity, class and
mannerism. My nana was taught to “be gracious and well mannered and you’ll
leave a good impression on people” despite her poor social condition. That
    was “fare bella figura” 🙂

This has been one of the best documentaries I have seen both about Italy
and Italian food. One wonders what a glorious notion you are. Salute a
