The reason for washing the butter with cold iced water is to draw out the
excess buttermilk. Basically use a ladle or a spoon etc to gently massage
the butter in the cold water till the water is clear. This is done so as to
prevent the butter from getting spoiled. But if you are gonna use the
butter straight away, the cold water treatment is not necessary.

You wash it with cold water so you can take out the excess milk and it can
preserve for a week or so. If you don’t, you can only use it for a day.

+WhiteRose Lanna Most of the butter I’ve found in the super market isn’t
actually butter, if you look at the container you will find that they are
70 – 95% Vegetable spreads made with vegetable oil. I discovered this a few
months ago when my girl friend complained about our butter tasting funny, I
tried to use some to make grilled cheese and it separated in the skillet
and looked mostly like water, my grilled cheese tasted horrible, so from
then on I only buy Butter made from sweet cream with salt, those are the
only 2 ingredients, not 50 like the vegetable spreads.

John, after watching this video minutes ago I tried this but added a little
sea salt and holy snickey it worked. I’m heating up a pretzel now to enjoy
with my home made butter,… wow,… who knew science could taste too

So you don’t have to add salt and stuff to make it like what you get at the
store? I’ve done that with, like, a Tbsp. or two of heavy cream at the
State Fair in the Dairy section where we could also milk a cow or a goat.
One year they had crackers for us to put our butter on and I couldn’t
believe how good it was!

You add cold water and squish the butter to get out any remaining
buttermilk so it won’t spoil as fast

I’ve done this at my elementary school before. We actually forgot the salt,
so we shook the heavy whipping cream and ate it with bread without salt.
Still tasted or try good though. 😀
