    If you don’t have citric acid on hand, simply put in a couple of
    tablespoons of vinegar and it will do the same thing.

    I know this is much later than you were probably planning, but you can do
    it in a regular pan. Put a towel on the bottom of the pan, place the can on
    the towel, cover with water, and boil for three hours, checking every 20-30
    minutes to make sure it is still covered. Allow it to cool before opening.
